Expensive photography gear, nice weather, a touch of technical skill and a love of children still don't guarantee a great children's portrait session. As much as I try to make the sessions fun, almost like a play date, most children blow my cover when I pull out my big black camera and continue to point it at them for an hour or so.

It is one of the reasons that retail portrait studios AMAZE me. While most of them are not my personal style for children's portraiture, I cannot fathom having 15 minutes with a child and getting several shots where the child is looking at the camera and smiling! Anyone with a child knows you just can't make a child want to do anything they don't want to do, especially sit still, follow directions and smile all at the same time.

Sometimes luck is on my side.

Rachel

It has been a great pleasure photographing Rachel since she was born. Her family has been so kind to me and I couldn't wait to see how much she had changed since last year. Not only is she adorable but she is so smart!

I think she was done with my sad attempts to make her laugh about 5 minutes into the session but fortunately, her family knew how to bring out her precious smile, and I managed to capture a few of them.

East Lansing Wedding, Kasey and Shane

Congratulations to Kasey and Shane who were married on Saturday in Williamston and had their reception at Eagle Eye Golf and Banquet Center!

If rain is good luck on a wedding day (and I believe it is since it rained on my wedding day), this couple is the luckiest couple ever! What started out as a bright sunny morning, quickly turned into an overcast day with intermittent thunderstorms and lightning. I did get a little nervous when the lights flickered several times during the day.

We didn't get to do some of the outdoor photos we had hoped to do, but Kasey and Shane still had a wonderful day and didn't let the weather stop their beautiful celebration.

Congratulations Kasey and Shane! Thank you for allowing us to share your day with you!

Easter

Once upon a time, I had a brilliant idea that I would make my own wedding invitations. They were going to be just what I wanted, but since I couldn't afford to buy them, I was going to design and make them myself.

The idea to try to make these cake pops for Easter was just about as "brilliant". Once I saw they were featured on Martha Stewart, I should have known better.
